SUMMARY:Wiki-A-Thons as Community Builders
DESCRIPTION:The Lesbian and Gay Liberation in Canada (LGLC) project set up a Wikipedia edit-a-thon to increase the visibility and representativeness of the French-speaking Canadian LGBTQ2IA+ movement on this platform. The LGLC project recognized the need to fill the gap in content on the LGBTQ2IA+ movement in French-speaking Canada compared to English-speaking Canada and wanted to call on the community to rectify the situation via this event\, which took place in the fall of 2023. In our final session of the Fall semester\, Humanities Data Lab research assistants Pascale Dangoisse and Farinaz Basmechi will present on the results of this activity\, and the avenues for the future. Location: Univeristy of Ottawa CreatorSpace (Pérez Hall\, room 302).

SUMMARY:Text Analysis in 3D
DESCRIPTION:3D visualization is surprisingly little used to visualize data and connections in the digital humanities\, despite the fact that the 3rd dimension can provide many benefits\, from decluttering plots to encoding one of the variables. \n\n\n\nIn this webinar I will present a workflow to analyze a text corpus consisting of works from multiple authors and visualize the differences between their vocabularies in 3D. I will complement it with 3D graphs to link similar texts. Throughout the webinar\, I will only use open-source tools — Python and several 3rd-party Python libraries\, ParaView\, and VTK — and will show 3D visualizations that can easily scale to millions of texts and can work for any input language. \n\n\n\nLed by Alex Razoumov (Simon Fraser University). \n\n\n\nOffered by WestDRI\, Simon Fraser University\, and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada.
