SUMMARY:Praxis Workshop: Understanding and Applying Generative A.I.
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to learn more about how artificial neural networks and machine learning techniques work? Join us to discover how these technologies can transform your teaching and research\, opening new dimensions in higher education. In this introductory-level workshop\, participants will learn the basics of how text-based and image-based Generative AI\, such as ChatGPT and DALL-E\, operate. First\, we will explore the basics of artificial neural networks and provide an overview of contemporary machine learning techniques. Then\, participants will apply this knowledge to their own pedagogy\, research\, and research creation.  \n\n\n\nParticipants will apply their understanding of how Generative AI works to redesign an assignment or project in a course they teach. This involves combining Generative AI outputs with distinct human skills and developing clear guidelines for students about the use and documentation of Generative AI tools. Participants will also develop specific and concrete strategies to integrate Generative AI into their research creation endeavors.  \n\n\n\nBefore the workshop begins\, participants are asked to please sign up for ChatGPT (https://chat.openai.com/auth/login) and DALL-E (https://openai.com/dall-e-3). This workshop is designed for faculty\, postdocs\, and graduate student researchers.  \n\n\n\nWorkshop facilitator: Dr. Aaron Tucker is a SSHRC post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto in the Faculty of Information recreating the Canadian history of artificial intelligence as a techno-national project. \n\n\n\nThis event is co-sponsored by CDHI and the new AI + Humanities Lab directed by LK Bertram. \n\n\n\nDate and Time: 5 Feb 2024\, 2-4pm EST \n\n\n\nPlease use this link to register on Zoom!
