SUMMARY:Build Your Own Chatbot: Local Applications in Generative AI on your Laptop
DESCRIPTION:Date: 13 November 2024 \n\n\n\nEveryone is familiar with cloud-based generative AI\, like ChatGPT. However\, the driving technology behind most modern AI systems — the transformers-based Larage Language Model architecture — is flexible enough to run on recent commodity hardware like your latop. \n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, we will explore the technology behind AI systems and set up and use a basic AI on your laptop you can chat with. \n\n\n\nDetails: Any preparatory work for the session can be found on its information page. This in-person workshop will not be recorded. \n\n\n\nFacilitator Bio: John Fink (he/they) is the Digital Scholarship Librarian at McMaster University Library. Their talents lie in complex and innovative systems administration and project management. He also has an interest in the maker/hacker element in digital scholarship\, and is frequently spotted tinkering with esoteric hardware. If you are interested in having the Sherman Centre support your project\, John is an excellent first contact.

SUMMARY:Analyse et visualisation de données avec Python [en ligne\, DAT201]
DESCRIPTION:Séance 1 (2024-11-06) \n\n\n\nSéance 2 (2024-11-13) \n\n\n\nLa programmation est un outil polyvalent qui permet de mener à terme des projets variés\, dont l’analyse de vos données\, leur manipulation et l’automatisation de tâches. Cette formation vous permettra de découvrir la programmation et de réfléchir à son intégration dans un projet de recherche. Les concepts abordés existent dans la plupart des langages de programmation. Cet atelier est donc pertinent même si vous souhaitez analyser vos données avec un langage autre que Python. \n\n\n\nInscription\n\n\n\n\nParticipant académique : 10$\n\n\n\nParticipant non-académique : 200$\n\n\n\n\nPrérequis\n\n\n\n\nComprendre les concepts de fichiers et dossiers;\n\n\n\nAvoir suivi UNX101 ou connaitre les bases de la ligne de commande Unix.\n\n\n\n\nPlan de cours\n\n\n\n\nLes bases\n\n\n\nAnalyse de données\n\n\n\nVisualisation\n\n\n\nLes listes\n\n\n\nRépétitions d’opérations\n\n\n\nExpressions conditionnelles\n\n\n\nFonctions\n\n\n\n\nFormateur\n\n\n\nCharles Coulombe\, analyste en calcul informatique de pointe à Calcul Québec. \n\n\n\nPrérequis techniques\n\n\n\nNous utiliserons Zoom comme plateforme. Comme il s’agit d’un atelier pratique\, il est utile d’avoir deux écrans afin de pouvoir afficher l’écran de l’instructeur d’un côté et votre propre écran de l’autre. \n\n\n\nNous utiliserons aussi l’interface Jupyter Lab. Assurez-vous d’avoir un navigateur Web moderne tel que Google Chrome\, Firefox\, Edge ou Safari. \n\n\n\nContact\n\n\n\nPour toutes questions\, écrivez-nous à formation@calculquebec.ca. \n\n\n\nNotes\n\n\n\nLa formation pourrait être annulée advenant un nombre trop peu élevé d’inscriptions. \n\n\n\nLa formation n’est pas enregistrée;

SUMMARY: Introduction to Python & Coding for HSS - Part I & II of the HSS Python Series
DESCRIPTION:Dates: November 6 & 13\, 2024 \n\n\n\nDescription: This is a beginner-level 4-part series for humanities and social sciences researchers (HSS) and librarians. Introduction to Python & Coding for HSS – Parts I & II focus on introducing participants to basic coding concepts and fundamentals to help them confidently participate in high-level conceptual discussions with computer programmers or technical team members. We will use Python due to its vast popularity\, easy syntax\, and powerful extensions while working in the user-friendly and convenient JupyterLab environment. These general concepts will be reinforced and illustrated with the hands-on development of simple programs that can help with text-based research and analysis immediately. \n\n\n\nParticipants can continue in the series to apply the Python knowledge with API Querying (Part III) and Textual Analysis (Part IV). It is highly recommended that you complete the 2-part Python series before joining API Querying and Textual Analysis. For the Python workshops\, you do not need any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented or prior programming experience. \n\n\n\nTechnical requirements: Install Python using Anaconda. To run Python\, we are going to use Jupyter Notebooks via JupyterLab. If you installed Anaconda\, JupyterLab is installed on your system.
