SUMMARY:Introduction to Regular Expressions (Regex)
DESCRIPTION:Date: 11 November 2024 \n\n\n\nRegular expressions are used to find “strings” in text documents. Strings are sequences of characters\, and regular expressions excel at finding them. If you need to find anything beyond exact character matches with or without general case insensitivity\, then it is time to consider leaving behind standard tools for finding text and embracing regular expressions. In particular\, regular expressions excel at finding patterns of characters within text. It can be applied to many applications and programming languages. \n\n\n\nTechnical requirements: if you are on Windows\, we recommend that you install Git for Windows (instructions here). Linux and macOS already have their own terminal. \n\n\n\nThese are introductory\, beginner-level sessions. No prior experience or knowledge is required. The workshop leverages lessons from Library Carpentry\, part of the larger Carpentries community that teaches researchers worldwide foundational coding and data science skills.

SUMMARY:Introduction aux expressions régulières

SUMMARY:Introduction to API Querying for HSS - Part III in the HSS Python Series
DESCRIPTION:Date: 20 November 2024 \n\n\n\nDescription: This is a beginner-level 4-part series for humanities and social sciences (HSS) researchers (HSS) and librarians. API Querying & Textual Analysis – Parts III & IV focus on allowing participants to apply basic coding concepts to API querying and text-based analysis. API stands for application programming interface. It acts as a communication interface so different computers/systems can talk to the application hosting the API. Querying APIs in HSS research is useful because data changes rapidly and it is a way to capture a small piece of a much larger set of data. \n\n\n\nThis is a continuation of the HSS Python Series. It is highly recommended that you complete the 2-part Python series\, Introduction to Python & Coding for HSS – Part I & II in the HSS Python Series\, before registering for API Querying and Textual Analysis. \n\n\n\nTechnical requirements: Install Python using Anaconda. To run Python\, we are going to use Jupyter Notebooks via JupyterLab. If you installed Anaconda\, JupyterLab is installed on your system.

SUMMARY:Textual Analysis using Python for HSS - Part IV in the HSS Python Series
DESCRIPTION:Date: 27 November 2024 \n\n\n\nDescription: This is a beginner-level 4-part series for humanities and social sciences (HSS) researchers (HSS) and librarians. API Querying & Textual Analysis – Parts III & IV focus on allowing participants to apply basic coding concepts to API querying and text-based analysis. We will use a Python library to analyze textual data and learn about common natural language processing (NLP) tasks such as part-of-speech tagging\, noun phrase extraction\, sentiment analysis\, classification\, and more to explore meaningful trends in language patterns.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Machine Learning: Regression Models
DESCRIPTION:Date: 28 November 2024 \n\n\n\nThis workshop focuses on regression models to provide participants with a foundational understanding of machine learning concepts\, techniques\, and tools used for linear and nonlinear regression. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises\, participants will gain practical experience with regression algorithms\, one of the most popular machine-learning techniques. The workshop begins with an overview of regression\, exploring its various types and applications and continues with training regression models\, interpreting the results\, and making predictions using real-world datasets. Additionally\, participants will gain insights into advanced topics such as regularization and feature selection. By the end of this workshop\, you will have a solid understanding of regression models and be familiar with popular Python libraries and tools to implement them. \n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, we will use cloud-based platforms\, so you don’t need to have Python installed. Please make sure that you have a Google Colaboratory (https://colab.research.google.com/) account. This workshop will involve hands-on exercises that require the use of programming tools and libraries commonly used in machine learning\, such as Python and Scikit-learn. As such\, prior familiarity with Python programming is recommended for participants to fully benefit from the practical component of the workshop. \n\n\n\nInstructor: Aisha Eldeeb
