DESCRIPTION:Date: 11 November 2024 \n\n\n\nThis workshop covers the basic of using Power BI to create visualizations. We will look at data cleaning\, creating impactful charts\, and building interactive dashboards. Discover how to tell your data story effectively and make informed decisions. No previous experience needed. \n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes: Construct basic visualizations using Power BI. Be able to critique the accessibility and design features of graphs. \n\n\n\nDetails: Any preparatory work for the session can be found on its information page. This virtual workshop will be recorded and shared on the same page\, and discoverable via the Sherman Centre’s Online Learning Catalogue. \n\n\n\nFacilitator Bio:  \n\n\n\nSubhanya (she/her) brings a background of research in data justice\, science and technology studies\, and environmental humanities. She is currently thinking through participatory data design which allow for visualizations that are empowering for the end user.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Regular Expressions (Regex)
DESCRIPTION:Date: 11 November 2024 \n\n\n\nRegular expressions are used to find “strings” in text documents. Strings are sequences of characters\, and regular expressions excel at finding them. If you need to find anything beyond exact character matches with or without general case insensitivity\, then it is time to consider leaving behind standard tools for finding text and embracing regular expressions. In particular\, regular expressions excel at finding patterns of characters within text. It can be applied to many applications and programming languages. \n\n\n\nTechnical requirements: if you are on Windows\, we recommend that you install Git for Windows (instructions here). Linux and macOS already have their own terminal. \n\n\n\nThese are introductory\, beginner-level sessions. No prior experience or knowledge is required. The workshop leverages lessons from Library Carpentry\, part of the larger Carpentries community that teaches researchers worldwide foundational coding and data science skills.
