SUMMARY:Visualizing Your Research Impact 
DESCRIPTION:Date: 12 November 2024 \n\n\n\nThe ability to create effective visualizations of your research impact is a valuable skill when competing for grants\, awards\, and attention in a crowded research landscape. In this workshop we will explore best practices for generating simple\, eye-catching graphics to communicate your impact from a variety of perspectives (from citation rates to collaboration networks to media attention). \n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes: Attendees will learn how to: 1) Generate ready-made impact visualizations within a variety of bibliometric tools at McMaster. 2) Utilize raw bibliometric data to create custom visualizations within a variety of tools (Excel\, VosViewer\, Datawrapper). 3) Effectively incorporate research impact visualizations into reports\, grant applications\, and award nominations. \n\n\n\nDetails: Any preparatory work for the session can be found on its information page. This virtual workshop will be recorded and shared on the same page\, and discoverable via the Sherman Centre’s Online Learning Catalogue. \n\n\n\nFacilitator Bio:  \n\n\n\nJack Young (he/him) is McMaster’s Research Impact Librarian\, supporting the use of bibliometric data to enhance the reporting and strategic planning practices of the University’s academic departments\, institutes\, and researchers.

SUMMARY:Introduction à la gestion des données de recherche et nettoyage de données avec OpenRefine [en ligne\, DAT101]
DESCRIPTION:12 novembre 2024 \n\n\n\nDans cette formation\, vous aurez un bref aperçu des concepts clés associés à une bonne gestion des données. Vous découvrirez aussi les bonnes pratiques de nettoyage de données à l’aide du logiciel OpenRefine. Le logiciel ouvert OpenRefine permet le nettoyage et la mise en forme de données dans une interface conviviale. Parmi ses avantages\, on retrouve la possibilité de conserver le fichier original intact\, de garder une trace des manipulations sur les données et d’annuler une modification facilement. \n\n\n\nInscription\n\n\n\n\nParticipant académique : 10$\n\n\n\nParticipant non-académique : 200$\n\n\n\n\nPrérequis\n\n\n\n\nComprendre les concepts de fichiers et dossiers;\n\n\n\nConnaitre les notions statistiques suivantes: moyenne\, écart-type\, distribution normale.\n\n\n\n\nPlan de cours\n\n\n\n\nIntroduction à la gestion des données de recherche\n\n\n\nNettoyage de données avec OpenRefine\n\n\n\nFiltres et “facetting”;\n\n\n\nTransformations communes;\n\n\n\nIdentification et correction de mauvaises entrées et erreurs de frappe;\n\n\n\nUtilisation du langage GREL;\n\n\n\nAutomatisation des modifications;\n\n\n\nRéconciliation des données;\n\n\n\nBonification de données (API).\n\n\n\n\nFormateur\n\n\n\nCaroline Baril\,Lina Harper\, analyste en calcul informatique de pointe à Calcul Québec. \n\n\n\nLangue du cours\n\n\n\nFrançais \n\n\n\nPrérequis techniques\n\n\n\nNous utiliserons Zoom comme plateforme. Comme il s’agit d’un atelier pratique\, il est utile d’avoir deux écrans afin de pouvoir afficher l’écran de l’instructeur d’un côté et votre propre écran de l’autre. \n\n\n\nNous utiliserons aussi l’interface Jupyter Lab.
