DESCRIPTION:Date: 20 November 2024 \n\n\n\nDifficulties encountered while manipulating or analyzing large data sets with spreadsheets can be avoided with Python scripts. In this workshop\, you will learn to perform basic data analysis\, from loading data to visualizing it. A few software libraries will be introduced\, such as Pandas and Altair. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n\nAcademic participant : 10$\n\n\n\nNon-academic participant : $200\n\n\n\n\nPrerequisites\n\n\n\n\nPYT101 completion or understanding the basics of object-oriented programming\n\n\n\n\nCourse plan\n\n\n\n\nSession 1 (2024-11-20\, 09:00 – 12:00)\n\nPandas and DataFrames;\n\n\n\nIndexing\, slicing\, and selecting datasets.\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 2 (2024-11-27\, 09:00 – 12:00)\n\nCombining datasets;\n\n\n\nAutomating analysis;\n\n\n\nData visualization with a specialized Python module.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor\n\n\n\nDarcy Quesnel\, analyst in advanced research computing at Calcul Québec. \n\n\n\nTechnical prerequisites\n\n\n\nWe will use the Zoom platform. Because this event is a practical workshop\, it is very useful having a secondary screen where you would get the instructor window on one screen and your own window on your main screen. \n\n\n\nWe will use the Jupyter Lab interface. SUMMARY:Introduction to API Querying for HSS - Part III in the HSS Python Series
DESCRIPTION:Date: 20 November 2024 \n\n\n\nDescription: This is a beginner-level 4-part series for humanities and social sciences (HSS) researchers (HSS) and librarians. API Querying & Textual Analysis – Parts III & IV focus on allowing participants to apply basic coding concepts to API querying and text-based analysis. API stands for application programming interface. It acts as a communication interface so different computers/systems can talk to the application hosting the API. Querying APIs in HSS research is useful because data changes rapidly and it is a way to capture a small piece of a much larger set of data. \n\n\n\nThis is a continuation of the HSS Python Series. It is highly recommended that you complete the 2-part Python series\, Introduction to Python & Coding for HSS – Part I & II in the HSS Python Series\, before registering for API Querying and Textual Analysis. \n\n\n\nTechnical requirements: Install Python using Anaconda. To run Python\, we are going to use Jupyter Notebooks via JupyterLab. If you installed Anaconda\, JupyterLab is installed on your system.

SUMMARY:Introduction à uMap et ArcGIS Storymaps
DESCRIPTION:Cette présentation vise à faire un tour d’horizon de uMap et Storymaps\, deux logiciels qui permettent de créer des cartes interactives. \n\n\n\nL’application en ligne uMap permet de créer et de diffuser des cartes géographiques personnalisées\, interactives et collaboratives. uMap est utile pour les chercheurs et étudiants universitaires\, car l’application permet de présenter des données sur une carte en ligne et de collaborer à plusieurs personnes sur une même carte\, offrant ainsi une plateforme conviviale pour la visualisation et la communication efficace des informations géospatiales. \n\n\n\nArcGIS StoryMaps est une plateforme de création de récits cartographiques immersive qui permet aux utilisateurs de combiner des cartes interactives\, des médias audiovisuels et du texte pour raconter des histoires de manière captivante. En intégrant la cartographie dynamique avec des éléments narratifs\, ARCGIS StoryMaps permet de partager des contenus de manière engageante et accessible\, facilitant ainsi la communication visuelle de données et d’analyses.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrésenté par Katerine Grandmont et Simon Côté-Lapointe \n\n\n\nKaterine Grandmont occupe le poste de technicienne en cartographie à la Cartothèque de l’UQAM. Elle détient une maitrise en géographie et a travaillé de nombreuses années dans le domaine de la recherche nordique\, notamment à la cartographie des risques en milieux de pergélisol. Elle offre du soutien à la communauté universitaire pour l’utilisation d’outils et logiciels de cartographie et d’analyse spatiale et l’utilisation des données géospatiales.  \n\n\n\nSimon Côté-Lapointe est bibliothécaire en histoire\, philosophie\, sciences des religions et linguistique et responsable des humanités numériques à l’UQAM. Il est détenteur d’un doctorat en sciences de l’information portant sur les archives audiovisuelles.
