This 6-hour workshop will teach participants how to create and host static websites using Jekyll and GitHub Pages. Static websites have many benefits, including low cost, faster rendering, easier backup and preservation, and far fewer security issues in comparison to popular dynamic platforms. Learners will be guided through writing formatted content with Markdown, configuring GitHub to build and serve pages, building multi-page sites with Jekyll, and customizing layouts. No prior experience with Git or web development is required — only comfort using a web browser — though a basic familiarity with HTML is helpful. This workshop is suitable for anyone looking to build a personal site or project documentation.
